High Tech Home

1 Jan 2008

Many of us are subjected to ever increasing demands made upon us in the work place and so, when at home, like to dedicate our time to family life and leisure pursuits.

The increasing number of innovations coming on to the market have a wide range of objectives. From practical energy efficiency products to purely fun items, they are not only designed to free ourselves of most of the tedious and repetitive chores of everyday home life but entertain us. They can also improve our personal safety and promote environmentally friendly practices.

Most home automation packages are module based. This enables them to be tailored to our family’s individual requirements and be expanded over time, as our requirements change, or become more refined.  Products vary from simple home entertainment systems, where music is stored in a central data base and accessed in every room independently, to full blown technological solutions, where practically everything within the home is monitored and controlled automatically as required.

Home automation.

The trend for home technology is growing to such an extent that many developers see the inclusion of automation in their properties as a given. A pretty standard property today usually includes security devices such as alarms, as well as more sophisticated heating and cooking systems. Mid range properties may include under floor heating, Integrated sound systems, central lighting controls and a variety of time and labour saving appliances. At the top end of the market the sky is the limit with a huge array of leading edge devices and systems to satisfy the needs of the most technologically demanding clients.

If you think you have to move home to achieve your heart’s desire in the gadget and gizmo market you can think again, for these systems are not just the preserve of the new home buyer.  Many innovations have also been developed with the aim of integration into existing properties, although some of the more sophisticated of them will need expert installation.

Just a small number of options available include:

·    heating and climate control,

·    operation of curtains and shutters,

·    complete door and window access control

·    property surveillance,

·    light switching and lighting mood controls,

·    home entertainment,

·    electrical appliance controls.

The means of access to these systems can vary, from a simple manually operated control pad, strategically placed touch control monitors to internet connections. The combinations available are virtually endless.
